The specialist sounding Swede, Sophia Somajo, is BACK with a brand new single! It’s called ‘Wristcutters Inc’, but despite the GRIM title, it’s actually a really pleasant and jaunty piece of poppage.
It’s the first single from her new album, ‘Cinema Beijing’. We guess that title ties in with a quote from a recent interview she did in which she explains her new sound – “It’s technological music with Chinese elements. I want it to sound like what Blade Runner looks like”. ‘Wristcutters Inc’ is bright and brilliant electro pop, although far more on the pop side of things. The melody in the chorus is intensely catchy, perfectly crafted. When the song was finished, we were still humming it, although not the lyrics, as it’s a tad un-PC to be singing ‘’wristcutters….throw your hands up in the air’’ joyously aloud when there are other people in the immediate vicinity!
This is very good and we await the album with hope. The single is released in Sweden on Monday.
