Perhaps spurred on by the runaway success of one of Finland’s biggest hits of the year so far – ‘Frontside Ollie‘ by 13 year old Robin – Warner Music Finland have now launched another 13 year old pop pretender onto an unsuspecting public. This time it’s a girl – Tuuli and her debut single ‘Salaisuudet’ (Secrets).
There’s a bizarre but likable contradiction going on here. On the one hand you’ve got the artificially sweet image and vocals that one would expect from a 13 year old girl popstar. But on the other hand, the electro production and the melody are really quite cool. Something you could imagine one of Tuuli’s older contemporaries doing. It’s jarring of course, but we guess that’s what makes it different to all of the other electropop numbers out there at the moment and fronted by girls.
We like this. We just haven’t decided how much we like it yet, or how little we’re going to allow the aforementioned jarred nature of the song to annoy us. But we’re more than happy that it’s going to be getting a lot of youngsters in Finland into this sound.
