After the not-very-good ‘One’ album, Elin Lanto has displayed a much welcomed return to form in 2008. ‘My Favourite Pair Of Jeans’ dropped earlier in the summer, preceded by ‘Speak N’ Spell’. Both tracks saw Elin regress to her dance pop sound, although electro had been brought along to the party this time too. Nothing new or groundbreaking in the slightest, but good pop music and to be frank – a joy to hear after the guitar driven sound of ‘One’ and the hideous Melodifestivalen dissapointment, ‘Money’.
Now, another song has surfaced. It’s called ‘Discotheque’ and can be found in all the familiar online places that are usually sodden with leakage! It’s dance pop, so another sigh of relief can be breathed. But it may actually be the best song she’s ever recorded. It’s anthemic, contains lots of sound effects, features the robotic voice that has become her signature over the last three songs, and has a soaring build up to a chorus that begins with her screaming ”I’m reborn at the Discotheque” – almost as if to apologise for her ill advised musical output over the last few years. ‘Discotheque’ really wouldn’t sound out of place on Kylie’s ‘Lightyears’ album.
You’ll be able to hear this, and a few other Elin treats at the launch of scandipop next week!
