Red One’s latest Swedish protegee, Mohombi, debuted the video for his first single this week. ‘Bumpy Ride’ has been climbing the Swedish iTunes chart steadily and is currently at number 31. Not quite the summer smash yet, but we’d be very surprised if it didn’t become one over the remaining month of the season. For those who haven’t heard it yet, we’d recommend you press play below – it’s a delightfully infectious blast of Red One’s take on dancehall. It’s like Kevin Lyttle’s ‘Turn Me On’ for 2010! In fact it’s actually quite a lot like ‘Turn Me On’, but let’s overlook that slightly glaring point for now.
Mohombi, as we mentioned last month, is signed to Red One’s own record label. And both Mr One himself, and the rest of his production team have been bigging ‘Bumpy Ride’ up on twitter at every given opportunity over the last few weeks. We get the feeling that they’re not going to rest until this is a huge hit – and quite rightfully so. It’d be nice to see him give at least a fraction of that support to his girlband Love Generation though. Both their debut single and its follow up ‘Good Times’ are even better than this, but he’s yet to really introduce them to all of his fans yet, which is a shame.
