The first signing to Robyn’s Konichiwa Records was announced earlier this month, along with a lot of fangirling from Robyn herself. It’s Zhala, whom some of you will know from ‘Slippin Around‘ which we wrote about back in April 2012. Things are moving a lot faster now that she’s with Robyn though, and today she released her debut EP ‘Prophet’.
That EP contains the title track, which is available as a Zhala song, and as a featuring Robyn version. And tonight the pair of them performed that version at the Swedish Grammy Award ceremony!
The performance was fierce. An industrial rave-up performance of the song, which is – well – an industrial rave-up. It’s larger on the synths than it is on the VOX. If anything, the pair of them coo creepily their contributions, so as not to take anything away from the mental production that is banging on behind them. Or in front of them, in this case.
The Zhala solo version was premiered yesterday over on The Guardian’s website, where you can listen to it and read a bit more about her and her signing to Konichiwa Records.
The ‘Prophet’ EP (including the Robyn collaboration) was released today, and outside of Sweden too.
