We like it when we get new pop music sent to us from Iceland. Iceland is the underrepresented nation of the Nordics – despite the fact that we ALL know they can knock out a good pop tune when they need to. Yet if they are making a lot of it, they’re keeping most of it to themselves, the shy and mysterious pop imps of Iceland.
Well we’ve got a new one for you. A fresh glimpse into what the island is churning out. It’s Unnur Eggerts and her brand new single ‘Dansa til að gleyma þér’.
It’s an upbeat and jaunty Europop number with a 2014 house music edge. Very summery, and not unlike some of what’s been populating the UK charts (and clubs) over the past couple of months, production wise at least.
The song is produced by the electro production duo Kiasmos (Olafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen) and Friðrik Dór.
Unnur Eggerts might be a new face on these pages, but she’s not a new artist in her native Iceland. And if you like the new single, you can also check out previous tracks ‘Stolin augnablik’ and ‘Við stingum af’. Plus, she finished in second place in Iceland’s national selections to find their entry to the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, with ‘Ég syng’.
Here’s the new sngle (which is the best thing she’s released so far);
