Tove Lo today follows up the much loved and lauded ‘Habits’ with her brand new single and video ‘Out Of Mind’.
It’s not too much of a departure in sound from her previous singles. However, the quirky darkness of ‘Habits’ has been replaced with just plain darkness. Still, dark or not she thanklessly glosses the defeatist lyrics up in an epic chorus melody, and makes that the standout element throughout the whole thing – just to liven matters up, you know? Never have the repeat accusations of you being out of your mind been so easy to listen to. And never has the accuser sounded so sad about it. “you’re out of your mind (x3) to think that I could keep you out of mind”.
The video is an interpretation of Tove’s own “demons and dark thoughts”, as she told PSL’s website, who premiered the vid earlier today. “The whole video feels like a lot to disclose, both on the inside and on the outside. But I like it. It gives me anxiety and pride at the same time”.
