Saturday night’s third heat of Melodifestivalen threw up a predictable enough result, with Molly Sanden and EMD going direct to the final, and BWO getting a place in the second chance round. The other second chance round position was given to the awful and downright horrendous Rigo though, which surprised everyone. Poor Velvet had to settle for 6th place, despite giving the best performance of the night, and having the best song. In our humble opinion anyway (and the majority of The Internet!). It was a travesty that Velvet didn’t progress any further. We’d like to describe how utterly brilliant the performance was but words, simply cannot give such a visual treat any justice. Have a look at the video below and TELL US that it didn’t deserve to qualify directly for the final!
See?!
We shan’t begrudge Molly Sanden and EMD their places in the final though. Both songs were top quality – with Molly providing us with an old fashioned ballad (refuting the claim that ‘’they don’t make them like they used too’’), and EMD delivering uptempo perfection with dapper attire and slick choreography. We also loved Sofia’s ‘Alla’ which received the international jury vote and will go through one more round of voting with a view to securing a place in the final. ‘Alla’ was all ethno pop/rock and Sofia gave a brilliant performance. All in all, Heat 3 was a very strong show and further cemented Melodifestivalen 2009’s admirable consistency at delivering great songs.
And what happened afterwards? Well www.qx.se has uploaded photos from the after party. And thankfully, it looks like Velvet didn’t let the result get to her. At all!
