Stella Mwangi’s Eurovision 2011 story is a well documented one, and a fable spiked with heartbreaking disappointment, at least where her fans are concerned anyway. But while we all still mourn the loss of ‘Haba Haba’ – its failure to progress from Eurovision’s semi final 1 last Tuesday . Stella herself has picked herself up with tremendous gusto, dusted down that sparkly gold frock, and is all set to go with the next chapter in her singing career – the new single!

Today, she premiered said new single on her Facebook page, much to our delight. And perhaps we’ll all be helped out in moving on, by the sight of her doing the very same. Certainly by the sound of her moving on anyway – ‘Lookie Lookie’ is fabulous!

Where DOES one go from a Scandinavian made take on African pop music that’s been tailored for the Eurovision stage? Well, somewhere totally different if you’re Stella Mwangi. She’s left behind the land of Katrina & The Waves and gone right to the sound of Dev & The Cataracs (“she likes her beats and her bass down low….b-b-b-bass down low”!). And while it’s nice to see her stick to a penchant for choosing song titles that repeat the same word twice, it’s even better to hear her do something very different. As we already eluded to, ‘Lookie Lookie’ is aping that sound that’s oh-so popular right now – American urban music channeling European house music and being spruced up with a touch of British electro music. She just loves a cooking pot of sounds doesn’t she, our Stella?! This, while totally different to ‘Haba Haba’, is potentially just as enjoyable. So enjoy;

You can have a listen to ‘Lookie Lookie’ in full here, and while you’re at it, you can preview all of the tracks from Stella’s forthcoming album, ‘Kinanda’, here.
