What’s this? Swedish artist Sofia Monroy has been tucked away in the recording studio for the past year, working on her debut EP. And here comes the first single from that labour. ‘Sweet Temptation’.
What’s it like? Simply sublime pop. We loved this before the first chorus had even finished playing out. With influences being heard from Gwen Stefani 15 years ago to Rosalia today, it’s an eclectic yet well put-together mix of masterfully crafted music. There’s a definite latin flair in there, alongside some top-notch Scandinavian melodies.
What does Sofia say? “‘Sweet Temptation’ and my upcoming EP is, to me, about female liberation. I struggled a lot earlier with taking control over the music-making process and trusting my own opinion. I think it’s easy as a young female to question yourself when other people, especially men, are trying to decide for you. It’s been a challenge
and still is sometimes, but I’ve taken the control into my own hands, and because of that, I’m very excited for this release. It’s more me, more eccentric, and it’s been a self-exploring journey that I can’t wait to share with everyone.”
Written by? Sofia herself, along with Alexander Malinao and Joel Sjöö, who also produced it.
