And HOW does one follow ‘Freak’? Good question. Its success could have put her in a difficult position, creatively. How do you follow a song that went on to become such a surprise success for her? The surprise being that it was her first independent release – she did it all without a label. But of course therein lies the solution. Because she’s doing it on her own, and because she doesn’t have a label interfering and over-thinking everything, following it up was quite easy. She just went into the studio with two of people she worked with on ‘Freak’, and wrote another brilliant song. It’s as simple as that.
Best bit? CHRIST – where do we begin?! Can we do a Top 5 in no particular order? Ok then. 1: the bonkers melody of the chorus. 2: the post-chorus. 3: the brief RAVE UP of the middle eight. 4: the dramatic climax. 5: the bit in the production after “hit me one more time” in the second verse.
Crikey! It’s just all TOO MUCH. In the best possible way.
