Norway’s game changing new TV talent show The Stream got properly going this week. All details on the process here. Of the nine songs though, there’s one which is standing out as a big highlight. And that’s Maybon – and his cover of Maria Mena’s ‘Just Hold Me’. The twist of sorts, in the context of this process, is that Maybon isn’t a vocalist – he’s a producer. And so whereas other contestants are competing via singing their own versions of other people’s songs, Maybon (real name Eivind Wøien) has produced his own version of the song, and recruited a vocalist to front it. So far it’s not been holding him back in this first week of voting (which is done via Spotify plays, honestly) – ‘Just Hold Me’ yesterday hit number 1 on the Norwegian Spotify Viral chart. Maybon, who is signed to Sony Music Norway for this competition, will perform the track on Friday nights episode of The Stream – where the first contestant will be eliminated, based on how streaming figures have stacked off.
You can find ‘Just Hold Me’ in our Best New Dance playlist. But DO check out all of the songs right here – they are all above par.
