What’s this? The brand new single from Swedish newcomer Lilly Ahlberg. Her first since splitting from her major label deal. This is ‘Needing You’.
What does Lilly say? “Roughly two months ago I split up with my record label. I had a moment of being really worried about the future when it happened, but then I realised quickly the amazing potential of deciding EVERYTHING MYSELF. If I’m honest, being signed to a label had me a bit lost. I felt like everything I created with passion and love got shut down and shoved away – songs I really believed in and cared about. The music industry can be so fucking heartless which is so weird because music is supposed to be heart-filled!! Anyway, I guess with that said my advice is, do everything you want to do YOUR way, and if you are letting someone in on the ride, they should support YOUR way. If they aren’t it’s really not worth it, no matter the situation. I wrote ‘Needing You’ a year ago, and I’m so proud of it. It’s a bit of a soppy ‘he doesn’t love me back’ kinda song, but it’s real to me and that’s what matters.”
What does Scandipop say? If this is the kind of music that Lilly so wanted to make and maintain, then she can rest knowing she has so far made the right decisions in her career. And we hope she continues making tunes like this for a long time to come.
More from Lilly? From the moment she arrived on January the 8th this year, with her debut single ‘Bad Boys‘, we knew we were gonna love her.
