What’s this? Two Icelandic pop heavyweights – GusGus and Margrét Rán of Vök – have gotten together to record one of the most famous Icelandic songs of all time, ‘Is It True?’.
Is it?… True?
No, is it Yohanna’s song? Of course!
Why have they gone and done that? They were invited to contribute a live performance at the first semi-final of Söngvakeppnin last month, and this is the song they went with. Reaction to it has been so positive, they’ve now gone and released it.
What’s have they done with it? Made it into an atmospheric – positively ICY – synthpop stunner. We’ve become obsessed with the song all over again, which is of course the sign of a great cover.
