What’s this? Swedish artist Frida Öhrn is today following up her Melodifestivalen entry from earlier in the year, ‘We Are One’, with a new single. Her tribute to Marie Fredriksson, it’s her own version of Roxette’s ‘Fading Like A Flower’.
What’s she done with it? Produced by Alex Shield, it’s fairly faithful cover of the original, but replacing the bombastic rock elements of Roxette’s classic with a contemporary, radio-friendly production. It’s already sounding like the ideal soundtrack to summer 2020 and blows a fresh sonic breeze into such a well-loved tune.
What does Frida say?Marie has been a great inspiration to me since my childhood. My version of “Fading Like A Flower” feels more poppy, summery and bright. It’s a version that I want to drive my car to, roll down the windows and crank up the volume. At the same time, Per Gessle’s text is heartbreakingly sad and I like that combination.”
