Amazing!
Remember we posted on here a few weeks ago about Swedish dansband, Drifters, having covered ‘Sha-La-Lie’, the Dutch entry from this year’s Eurovision? Well they’ve ONLY gone and performed it on national television here in Sweden!
It’s a Swedish language version and is taken from their brand new album ‘Stanna Hos Mig’. The album’s up on Spotify now and we’ve been listening to it quite a lot this week. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable schlager-esque romp through typically Swedish dansband songs, beautifully melodious ballads, and bizarrely chosen covers of famous English songs – that all work really well.
Aside from ‘Sha-La-Lie’, we suppose the most ‘out-there’ cover is of the Bangles classic, ‘Manic Monday’. It’s addictively good though, and we keep coming back to it. Another great cover is the old country classic ‘Morning Train’. It’s just SO happy! They’ve also tagged on a cover of the Danish Eurovision entry, ‘In A Moment Like This’, which appeared on the new album from Scotts earlier this year – it’s a duet between the Scotts frontman, and the Drifters lead singer. Our favourite three tracks though, are three Swedish language numbers that we’d highly recommend you take a listen to. ‘Det Är Kärlek’, ‘Ska Vi Plocka Körsbär I Min Trädgård’, and title track ’Stanna Hos Mig’. The first two of those are pure unadulterated schlager in their finest form! Although really, we’d recommend the whole album. It’s just a massive bundle of joy from start to finish.
Below you can watch the performance of ‘Sha-La-Lie’, plus album track ‘Där Du Går Lämnar Kärleken Spår’. Watch ‘Sha-La-Lie’ and TRY telling us that it’s not the most spectacularly joyous thing you’ve seen in a long time, we dare you!
