Sweden’s got a new talent to shout to the rest of the world about. No surprises there then. It’s 18 year old Saron, who has just released her debut single ‘Strong Like A Lion’.
It’s a catchy, captivating, call-to-arms kind of a song. It sounds like a more up-tempo and rousing version of Ji Nilsson’s ‘Heartbreak Free’ actually. No bad thing. It has moments of being quite disjointed, and therefore sounds like two or three songs merged into one – but when that’s done right, as it’s done here, it can sound incredible.
Saron rose to fame in Sweden only in the last few weeks, when she was controversially eliminated from the current series of Swedish Idol quite early on in the competition. Independent label Ninetone Records swiftly signed her though, having known all about her before Idol kicked off – she’s a Sundsvall resident, where Ninetone are also based.
‘Strong Like A Lion’ is written by Maria Marcus, Pontus Frisk, Pierre Toftgård and Clare Reynolds.
What a fabulous debut!
