Swedish pop princess Janet Leon is gearing up to release her second solo single , ‘Heartache On The Dancefloor’. We didn’t write about the first, ‘Let Go’, because to be honest, we didn’t really like it. As a result, we didn’t listen to her album and so it wasn’t until this week that we first heard aforementioned second single, ‘Heartache On The Dancefloor’. Our mistake, and our loss – because ‘Heartache On The Dancefloor is actually amazing! We love it!
It’s the perfect climax of a genre threesome between electro, r&b, and pop! The intro is dirt personified, the melody is catchier than a Kiruna cold, the middle eight is tastier than mint marabou, and the lyrics are really quite brilliant – so much so that we’ve posted them below an audio stream from youtube. ”The disco lights are calling, electric tears are falling” anyone?!
We should have known that Janet Leon wouldn’t disappoint, and we should have given her album the benefit of the doubt despite not liking ‘Let Go’. Why? Well, because of her pop breeding, that’s why! Not only was she part of Swedish girlband Play (along with another new pop lady that we love, Rosanna), but she also provided vocals for one of our favourite pop/rock albums of all time – ‘Rock Angelz’ by Bratz! Yes, those dolls! The soundtrack to the animated Bratz movie was pop perfection. It wasn’t commercially successful amongst the over 10 year olds though so it’s something of a hidden gem that nobody we know has ever really discovered. But there are some brilliant moments on there if you’re willing to overlook the ridiculous lyrics. The whole album was written and produced by Scandinavians though, so it’s hardly surprising!
