NEO has announced the next single to be taken from his superb ‘Reborn’ album that was released earlier this year. He’s gone with the album’s opening track ‘Pushing Darkness’.
A marvellous choice! ‘Pushing Darkness’ is a shimmering mincer of a pop song. Both Pet Shop Boys-esque and Moroder-esque, and with a triumphantly camp chorus that brings the audio dramatics tenfold. It was a great decision to open the album with this song, given that it set the tone of NEO’s slightly evolved sound from his previous album. So it makes sense that it gets released as a single too. In Scandipop terms at least, there’s nobody else making this kind of music right now – theatrical electropop with a kitsch falsetto edge. And ‘Pushing Darkness’ parades the exact genre like no other on the ‘Reborn’ album.
The single is getting a release on August 29th, but NEO is allowing Scandipop to stream both the radio edit and the dance mix on here, ahead of its release.
