Fantastic official news from SVT today – legendary Swedish drag queen, Babsan, is the latest competitor confirmed for Melodifestivalen 2011. The well seasoned performer, professional, and purveyor of all things pink, will compete with the song ‘Ge Mig En Spanjor’ (‘Give Me A Spaniard’).
Babsan most recently completed a tour with After Dark – a spectacular show that was a celebration of all things camp and schlager. And of course she has a long history of her own shows too, and numerous performances at gay pride events, clubs, etc etc etc. A full biography would take forever to write, but in a nutshell – she’s FUCKING FABULOUS!
And as if those credentials weren’t enough, let’s take a look at the songwriters shall we. Between them, Larry Forsberg, Sven-Inge Sjöberg, and Lennart Wastesson, have been responsible for NaNa’s ‘Wherever You Go’, Jill Johnson’s ‘Crazy In Love’, and….wait for it…..After Dark’s ‘La Dolce Vita’. This really can end up going one way only – absolutely amazing! And a song title like that just adds to the fun.
Babsan is the 13th artist confirmed for Melodifestivalen 2011.
