Remember that Marlene lady who appeared out of nowhere this summer and basically wowed us all with the immense ‘Bon Voyage’? It went “bon voyaaaage…BONBON voyaaage”. That one. Well she’s come back from her hols (HA HA) and this week premiered a brand new track, ‘Stay Awake’.
She performed it as part of the annual Musikhjälpen telethon, which started this week (and which we’ll be featuring more of on Scandipop soon). So it’s a live version, but still – you get the idea. The idea that WE’RE getting is that it’s another intricately produced piece of electro, with Marlene singing a big pop chorus and a subdued verse over the top of it. ‘This a synth ballad. And going by this, we can assume that Marlene has joined her fellow countryfolk in mastering the art of the icy electro ballad.
Hooray for Marlene following up a much fussed over debut, with another song so soon. We like it when popstars just go for it.
