Oh Loreen!

We knew she was obviously something quite special when she wowed Melodifestivalen 2012 with ‘My Heart Is Refusing Me’ back in February. But who could have dared hope that her follow up single would be even better?!

But better it is. It’s called ‘Sober’, and it was released to a nation of grateful Swedes last week, who responded by making it number 1 on Swedish iTunes within 24 hours. Deservedly so. It’s a compelling piece of pop tunage. Dancefloor flavoured and with a melody that begs to be trilled along to. Effortlessly enjoyable, and thrillingly catchy – in that you most certainly won’t be annoyed if this stays in your head for the rest of the day, which it inevitably will. Most impressive of all though is Loreen’s vocals. She sounds nothing short of spectacular on ‘Sober’. And this has instantly made her one of Sweden’s most exciting new artists in 2011.

It’s even more commercial, poppy, and radio friendly than ‘My Heart Is Refusing Me’. And given that that song ended up being the most successful song from Melodifestivalen 2011 outside of the contest – aside from the winner, Eric Saade’s ‘Popular’, and arguably Sara Varga’s ‘Spring För Livet’ – it’ll be interesting to see how well ‘Sober’ is received over the coming months.

And it goes without saying that anticipation levels for her debut album have now been ramped to the max.
