The season finale of Swedish Idol was last Friday, and as we mentioned the next day, we liked the winner’s song ‘Dreaming People’ by the series winner, Jay Smith, but we weren’t fully sold on it and were awaiting the full studio version.
Well, the studio version is here, and we’re loving it something silly! A beautiful melody sung on top of a drama filled, string laden backing track. The bass strings in the chorus in particular are chillingly good, and probably the best thing about it. What sounded slightly messed up in the live version, is now a fully cohesive pop/rock ballad, with a prettiness that’s complimented, not aggravated by Jay Smith’s rough and gravelly rockers vocal! Granted, he’s not the type of artist that we’re expecting to be a fan of once he starts releasing music that hasn’t been especially composed for Idol, like this has, but we do like him on this.
