Wow! This is quite possibly the best 45 minutes of television we’ve seen this side of Melodifestivalen. If you find the time this week, we’d strongly recommend you sit back and enjoy this. It’s the tour that After Dark and Babsan took on the road in Sweden this year. TV4 filmed one night and it was broadcast last week. And you can watch it below.
It’s a mixture of camp cabaret, schlager, and spoofage. It’s glitter, it’s glamour, and it’s Glee! The music is incredible, the performances are highly entertaining, and the frocks are to die for! Plus, their schlager spoofs are hilarious too – they take on Anna Bergendahl’s ‘This Is My Life’, Malena Ernman’s ‘La Voix’, Caroline Af Ugglas’ ‘Snälla Snälla’, and Charlotte Perrelli’s ‘Hero’. There’s also a royal family spoof sequence with lots of tracks from the likes of Shirley Clamp, Sanna Nielsen & Fredrik Kempe, Velvet, and Lena Philipsson. And they even digress from Swedish schlager to include songs and take-offs of Cher, Diana Ross, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, and Shirley Bassey. Plus, After Dark performs her two Melodifestivalen entries, and Babsan performs her theme, ‘Jag Är Jet-Set Babsan’. Oh, and the opening number is a Swedish language version of Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Go West’. Every one of the performances has a carefully choreographed routine, and the dancers are all wonderful.
It’s thoroughly spectacular. And really, the frocks are amazing! Watch, watch, watch!
