Who are CADEM? A brand new pop trio that is two parts Swedish and one part Icelandic. Made up of Daniel (Daniel Oliver, whom we’ve featured on here a few times before), Emelie (formerly of Lucky Twice, during their ‘Love Song’ incarnation), and Caroline. At the moment they’re competing in the Icelandic national selections for Eurovision, Söngvakeppni. But that’s just a launchpad really. These lot are destined for bigger and better things.
And why is that? Because they’re fucking awesome! Their first single (and Söngvakeppni entry) is ‘Fyrir Alla’, an Icelandic version of a song they wrote and recorded last year. It’s a disco and funk tinged pop romp that exudes a certain level of sophistication, while remaining joyously carefree at the same time. We’ve had a preview of some of their other songs too, hence our excitement about their launch in 2015. As we say – Söngvakeppni is just the beginning. And they’re currently readying a debut EP to be released this summer.
Go on. Oh yeah, we’re also mightily impressed with their performance style. We, along with anyone else who follows Söngvakeppni, saw them perform live for the first time this weekend at the semi-final (and they made the final, which takes place this Saturday). The reason we liked them is down to the simple fact that they looked like they were enjoying it so much. It sounds obvious, but it’s rarer than you’d think. But these three took to the stage and looked like they were having the time of their lives – which always makes the viewer enjoy it that much more too. We cite that same factor as the very reason why we’ve always loved Alcazar so much, and that’s because THEY look like they love it so much too. Based on this performance, it looks like CADEM are on the same path. And pop music really DOES need a young successor to Alcazar. We reckon these guys are the perfect candidate.
Who wrote the song? Daniel Oliver, along with Jimmy Åkerfors and Einar Ágúst Víðisson.
And what are they up against in the final? You can read our guide to the Söngvakeppni final here. And here you can watch the live performance AND listen to the studio version;
