You may remember back in January, we awarded a young lady by the name of Hilda, the award for ‘Brightest New Hope for 2011’ in the 2011 scandipop awards. This was based on a couple of things. Firstly, that we knew that she’d been working on her debut album with the same people behind Eric Saade’s success (not just the writers and producers, but management and record label also). Eric Saade won the same category in the 2010 scandipop awards, and look how well that turned out! We also based it on the Christmas single that she had released at the end of last year, in connection with Disney Sweden, the rather fab ‘Just One Wish’.
So when it was announced that her proper debut single ‘Come The Weekend’ was to be released finally in March 30th, we were quite excited. Although a little nervous too – what if our brightest new pop hope for 2011 turned out to be a disappointment?! Said hope wouldn’t be so ‘bright’ anymore.
Well we needn’t have worried. Hilda sent us the song earlier this week for us to have a listen to. And we really like it. It’s like a Swedish version of Miley Cyrus – pop, but with a ‘southern country’ influence intertwined. It’s upbeat, jolly stuff. Mid-tempo, but with a pace still fast enough for you to indulge in a bit of head nodding and foot tapping. Which we did of course! The catchiest element within isn’t the vocal melody, it’s the instrumentation. There’s a simple little chord progression that runs throughout the song that totally sticks in your head after a few listens. It’s quite addictive.
We liked it so much that we asked her if we could upload an exclusive clip on here, so that scandipop readers could hear it now rather than waiting the two weeks until it’s released. And she said yes! So here it is;
