Today, Finnish broadcaster YLE has revealed the 7 artists who will be competing in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2023.
Finland’s Eurovision pre-selection is a one-night affair, which will take place on Saturday February 25th. The songs will be released one every day, for the next seven working days, starting tomorrow. But for now, we have the artists involved, and the names alone are something to get excited about.
Regular Scandipop readers will already be familiar with both Robin Packalen and Benjamin Peltonen – two of Finland’s biggest pop acts over the past decade. We’ve also recently featured KUUMAA, who have been going for a few years now, but who have had a particularly successful year of hits through 2022. Lxandra and Käärijä are two artists that have been around since the latter half of the 2010s, and who’ve both considered entering UMK before, but have waited until the right song came along – which happened to be right now, for both of them. Keira, meanwhile, uses UMK to release her debut single, having recently risen to fame and acclaim on The Voice Finland. And lastly, we have Portion Boys – one of Finland’s biggest streaming acts, with multiple hits to their name, known primarily for ‘party music’. And really, isn’t that what we’re *all* here for?
Here are the seven artists and songs competing, in the order that they’ll be released – starting tomorrow.
Keira – No Business On The Dancefloor
Benjamin – Hoida mut
Robin Packalen – Girls Like You
Lxandra – Something To Lose
Käärijä – Cha Cha Cha
KUUMAA – Ylivoimainen
Portion Boys – Samaa taivasta katsotaan
We’ll be featuring the songs on the site as they’re released! You can read full bios of all the artists (in English) over on YLE’s website.
