What’s this? Icelandic pop legend Svala is out with a brand-new EP – ‘Andvaka’.
What’s on it? Three singles that we have raved about on these pages before (‘Þú Togar í Mig‘, ‘Þögnin‘ and ‘Sjálfbjarga‘) plus two new tracks.
What’s it like? A beautifully dark and wistfully atmospheric EP, for the first four songs at least. Before it then lifts you out of your blissed-out chill for the rather banging final track, ‘Andvaka’. It’s one of those EPs where it’s just a thoroughly pleasant experience to listen to it.
Highlights? The choice of singles was an excellent one, and all three of them take you somewhere special. But it’s ‘Þú Togar í Mig’ that is the EP’s most striking gem – not just in terms of its composition, but in the vocals that we get to hear Svala unleash.
