What’s this? The debut EP from Swedish pop artist Julia Viktoria. ‘Stranger’.
What’s on it? Four songs – one of which is so good, they recorded it in Swedish, too – to make a five-track EP!
What’s the song so good they recorded it twice? ‘Stranger’. Perfectly sublime synthpop which pairs a dreamy production to some introspective lyrics. And it’s available as ‘Främling’ in Swedish.
And the other songs? ‘Can’t Stop’ is another tune and a half, much in the same vein as ‘Stranger’. Whereas ‘Things We Never Had’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Forgotten’ are more straight-up pop, but no less welcome additions to what serves as a pretty flawless EP and a very impressive debut.
What does Julia say? About the song ‘Stranger’: “I started getting a lot of flashbacks from my previous relationship. I could not stop thinking and reflecting on the time we had together and what we shared. I also reflected on the fact that a person who I shared a part of my life with suddenly turned into a stranger. I didn’t want us to be strangers, I wanted to be able to get to know that person again, in a different perspective.”
Written by? The EP was written by Julia herself, together with Robin Padam and producer Johannes Willinder.
More from Julia? She’s also put out a music video for ‘Stranger’.
