A week after the album has proved to be a massive hit in album charts across the world, Agnetha Fältskog has announced her intentions to release another single from it. And she and her team have made the right choice. They’ve gone with the sublime. They’ve gone with the ridiculous. They’ve gone with ‘Dance Your Pain Away’!
If you’ve not heard the song yet, you’re in for a treat. In recent years, it’s hard to think of a song that has aligned itself so proudly, so shamelessly, and so well, with all that is camp, all that is shiny, and all that is gay. Such a song in the mainstream, hasn’t penetrated homosexual stereotypes so deeply, since probably Kylie Minogue’s ‘Your Disco Needs You’. And fair play to the lady herself, she knows it too. “you caught him in the rest room…..with another one“. Yes Agnetha. Yes we have.
For the definite review of this song though, we really recommend you read the Diva Incarnate blog’s piece about it. It’s practically poetry itself.
The single is released next week, on May 28th. Listen to the original below, and you can find previews of the remix here. That remix comes courtesy of Smash Mode, and they certainly embrace the disco heart of the song. Although personally, we would have loved to have heard 7th Heaven, Almighty, or SoundFactory let loose on it.
And incidentally, Jörgen Elofsson, the man behind ‘Dance Your Pain Away’, really does deserve a medal for services to gay men in 2013. He’s also responsible for the amazing ‘New Colours’ by Janet Leon, the official anthem for Stockholm Pride this year.
