ABBA could well be one to watch out for at the Grammys after receiving four nominations ahead of the prestigious awards ceremony.

For most given artists, the Grammys represents the pinnacle of their career, and it is recognition from the worldwide music community that their achievements in the industry shouldn’t be negated.

Having made a long-awaited comeback, Abba’s nominations came in a variety of categories, including Record of the Year for “Don’t Shut Me Down” and Album of the Year for “Voyage”.

But despite amassing over 11 million combined sales to date, ABBA is still yet to clinch a Grammy.

Will this change in February 2023? We have explored a few key factors which could suggest that it might just do.

Grammy snub again?

ABBA are no strangers to Grammy ceremonies, but they have often been snubbed in the past. That said, they still have a wealth of other accolades under their belt. This includes the American Guild of Variety Artists Entertainer of The Year Awards where they were named as the Vocal Group of the Year.

Also, they scooped several awards between 1974 and 1982 at the Bravo Otto Awards, which are presented by Bravo magazine, and staged in Germany.

Past results also show that pop voters don’t always necessarily vote for the biggest song. This was the case in 2019 where Lady Gaga’s song “Joanne” won in the category of Best Pop Solo Performance, so that should give ABBA some belief.

Enduring appeal

Part of ABBA’s appeal is their longevity, and you will have at some point heard one of their songs on the radio or elsewhere. And ABBA’s influence hasn’t just been confined to the recording studio or while touring all over Europe. No, ABBA has also made a significant impact on the stage at theatres with the hit musical “Mamma Mia”, and there was also a film version that was well received at cinemas.

But ABBA have near universal appeal, and they have left an indelible mark on the pop scene. And the genre of pop music in general has extended into other industries, such as the digital casino environment. Although Buzz Bingo has an ABBA-themed bingo game, this isn’t the exception. At many of the most popular online casinos, you will find pop-style slots for particular bands, like the NSync Pop slot, to name one.

Success of Voyage

And ABBA’s show Voyage, which they didn’t perform live themselves, was rather unique as cutting-edge technology was used, which saw the band perform as digital avatars.

All the classics were performed during the show, and it is a must-see for any ABBA fan. Perhaps this could sway all the other judges.

Final Word

While ABBA hasn’t had much luck when it comes to Grammy ceremonies, the signs are that they could pick up at least one award this time round. The fact they have been nominated for lots of categories shows they still have plenty of pulling power, and it will be fascinating to see how things pan out.
