In the UK, we’re now used to the annual influx of re-entries into our singles chart around Christmas time. The usual suspects; Mariah Carey, The Pogues, Slade, Wizzard, Wham, and Shakin’ Stevens are almost a guarantee to break back into the top 40 for a couple of weeks or so.
Well, in Scandinavia this year, they’ve clearly fallen in love again with Abba‘s seasonal ode- ‘Happy New Year’. In Sweden and Norway, it has re-entered their singles charts at number 5. While in Denmark, it’s re-appeared at number 14. It’s also the track that Alcazar performed at their NYE gig at G-A-Y in London, as we reported the following day.
Unfortunately though, there were no signs of Shirley Clamp‘s classic camp take on ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ in any chart around the world. Maybe next year….
