Well, after 3 weeks of dominating the Swedish iTunes chart, there’s finally a new song at number one that isn’t one of the 32 Melodifestivalen entries! Over the last few weeks, lots of acts from the competition have experienced a brief residency at the number one position; Agnes, Malena Ernman, EMD, Caroline Af Ugglas etc. But now it’s the turn of P-Bros! And who are they, I hear you ask?
Erm……..they’re the interval act from the Melodifestivalen 2009 final! And they’re number one with the song that they performed; ‘Tingaliin’!
Amazing!
But deserved! Yes, it’s a novelty song that many will claim has no musical merit whatsoever. But we absolutely adore it! It’s uptempo, it’s politically incorrect, it pays a tongue in cheek homage to cheap 90’s techno AND schlager AND traditional Russian music, but above all, it’s a deliriously catchy hot mess! We loved it when we saw it performed at Globen and then we loved it even more when we heard the studio version being played at the Melodifestivalen after party, and then at Club Patricia the following night!
