Dame Carola Häggkvist is still soldiering on through through her Elvin n’ Babs phase. It’s been more or less a year since it all started, and following a tour and various TV and festival performances, she’s now readied an album for release.
To promote it, she unleashed her cover of the Elvis classic ‘Suspicious Minds’ at the end of last month. The song was a surprise hit on the Swedish iTunes chart, reaching the top ten. And over the weekend just gone, she appeared on Swedish and Norwegian talk show, Skavlan, to discuss the album, and to perform ‘Suspicious Minds’. You can watch the performance below, and it’s a typical Carola affair, in which she appears possessed by her usual woman-on-a-mission stance – that mission being to entertain the masses, of course! For the first half, it’s standard performance fare, but from the two minute mark, we see Carola come into her own. Out comes the passion, and we witness a woman going from being down on her knees, to lifting the mic stand triumphantly, if a little nonsensically above her head, perfectly catching every camera angle along the way.
Carola – what an amazing woman!
Also below, you can see the tracklisting of her new album, ‘Elvis, Barbara, och Jag’, which will comprise covers of six Elvis songs and six Barbara Streisand songs.
