We received a mysterious email in our inbox last night. The subject title was ”New Song by Ace of Base – Mr. Replay (.mp3)”. There was no text in the body of the email though, just an mp3 download of the song. So we downloaded and had a listen.
The music and the melodies certainly sound like classic Ace of Base. The beats throughout are reggae-pop bliss, and the chorus is brilliantly catchy. And it even has a sing-a-long ”na na na na na” part. But we have trouble believing that this is official. Mainly because the majority of the vocal is sung by a guy. And it’s not Jonas or Ulf, as this guy is singing in a cod Jamaican accent. But then the chorus comes in and we hear two girls singing a typical Ace of Base melody and lyric.
Perhaps it really is Ace of Base. A track that’s gonna be put on their album rather than released as the first single. A song which has been leaked as a ”buzz track” to get some feedback for a project which seems to be so very frought with uncertainty right now.
