We DO love Tooji. We do. And after his last few ear-fucks of singles, he returns today with another one. New single and video, ‘LYS’ (it stands for Love Yourself).
What’s it like? Probably his most commercial and mainstream single in a while. He trills in a tripped out fashion over a funky 90s piano house track.
And with a title like that, we’re guessing some self-help lyrics? It’s seemingly built on quotes from American reality TV shows (we know, cos we watch and love ‘em all). “How the hell you gonna love somebody else – if you can’t love yourself”, and “get your life”. All that’s missing is a “I’m Gone With The Wind fabulous – now TWIRL”.
Ok then. Truly a rare artist in pop who isn’t giving any fucks about what people think, and is making PRECISELY the kind of songs he wants to.
