Well this is quite the shock. Or the shockjokkmokk. We’ve found ourselves falling hard for a novelty, Swedish language rap track. ‘Paradise Jokkmokk’ by Sweden’s own Kitok.
Erm….we feel a bit out of place trying to give song this any sort of a review, since it’s a bit of an anomaly. But it’s something that got us to pay attention on first listen, and has since gone on to get even more enjoyable through repeated listens. We think it’s the combination of the overpowering flavour of the nineties and the great big stonking anthemic melodies and harmonie of the chorus. Something like that.
The novelty aspect comes from the fact that it’s been said that the man behind Kitok, Magnus Ekelund, dreamt up ‘Paradise Jokkmokk’ as an attempt at a Lapland Beastie Boys track. But there’s probably a lot more to it in the lyrics – we’re buggered if we can understand what’s going on in most of it!
Here it is. It’s odd, but it’s amazing;
