Previously one third of Swedish outfit Team Rockit, Merely is now going out on her own and last week released her debut album ‘Nirvana’. And with it, the lead single ‘Forever’.
It’s an instant nugget, this one. Sounding like the bizarre combination of 2014 Scandi electro siren and 204 UK chart trance, it’s not quite like anything else out there at the moment. A subdued sort of euphoria. Very compelling.
Her record label Sincerely Yours have summed Merely’s sound up perfectly in their description of it and her – “a teenage dirtbag with a thousand year old soul, an adidas sponsored Galadriel, a cocktail of vodka and holy water. Banging euro techno from your adolescence and the angel choirs from your funeral. Like a therapy session with the higher powers, that ends when the phone dies”.
