Patrik Isaksson. A bit of a Swedish pop legend right there. But do you know something, readers – we couldn’t name you a single one of his songs. Not even his Melodifestivalen entry. In fact, we’d be unsurprised if one of you corrected us by saying he’d never actually entered Melodifestivalen. But we’re almost sure he competed back in 2008. Don’t know what with though. Hundreds of thousands of fans he has. But we’ve never been one of them.
We could quite well start fanboying for him however, if he carries on what he’s started with his new single ‘Slåss För Oss’. Produced by Peter Boström aka Bassflow aka one of our favourite producers of all time. It sounds not massively unlike Bassflow’s remix of Vinsten’s ‘Luckiest Girl’, which is (seriously) one of the greatest remixes EVER. So this one was always going to be a bit of a winner. Take that remix and cross it with what Peter Boström has previously produced for Martin Stenmarck, and you’ve got ‘Slåss För Oss’ in a nutshell. Anthemic stadium poprock/rockpop with a Scandipop (Scandipoprock/Scandirockpop?) chorus.
We’ve lost track of what “radio pop” even means anymore in 2014. But cast your definition back to a better time on the radio – and this is radio pop.
Here’s Patrik singing his new single on Sommarkrysset at the weekend. And below that you can listen to the studio version via Spotify.
