Norway’s Hanne Sørvaag is one of the nation’s best pop writers. Fact. Whether that’s for herself, or for artists like Shontelle (‘Say Hello To Goodbye’), Didrik Solli-Tangen (Eurovision’s ‘My Heart Is Yours’), or Same Difference (‘The Rest Is History’ – amazing). She’s gone quite far down the country music route of late, as an artist. But from that, she’s just released an incredible new song. It’s called ‘Rain Checks’ and it’s Hanne Sørvaag at her absolute best.
We’d sort of stopped checking out new music from Hanne, as we’d assumed she’d gone a bit TOO country for our tastes (SORRY HANNE!) (though, to be fair – she kinda had for a while). But Christ we missed out. ‘Rain Checks’ may well even be better than her Melodi Grand Prix almost-winner ‘You’re Like A Melody’. It’s early days, but we think it might just be.
THE CHORUS!!!
An invigorating slice of upbeat pop that commands repeated listens. And did we mention the chorus? Aside from that melody, there’s about a gazillion different TWANGS going on in there. So it turns out country music isn’t so bad after all.
Thanks to Twitter user @JakeAlex92 for sending this our way and making us see the Sørvaag light again.
‘Rain Checks’. So good we need to post it twice. So here’s the studio version AND live performance;
