Tone Damli has got herself a new single out. Released yesterday in her native Norway – ‘Winner Of A Losing Game’.
It’s a change of tone (HA HA HA – sorry) for her, in that it’s an emotional ballad, rather than an up-tempo poptastic jam. However, what is present and correct here is Tone’s usual reliance on a brilliant melody. And that means that ‘Winner Of A Losing Game’ is delivered as a stunning and powerful ballad. You ain’t never heard her sing like this before. And when the song’s over, you kind of wonder why she hasn’t come out with something like this before. (well – it’s because she’s been too busy making pop gems like ‘Look Back’ and ‘Imagine’, but that’s besides the point).
We don’t *think* this is the start of a whole new direction for her, since we’re yet to get the much hyped ‘Perfect World’ – which is by all accounts going to be her crowning pop glory when it’s released in the next few months. However, ‘Winner Of A Losing Game’ serves as an enjoyable insight into what else Tone Damli can deliver, and just how good her forthcoming album is most likely to be.
Plus, we don’t know if Tone actually has all that many critics in Norway. But if she does – this is gonna silence the fuckers.
Beautiful;
