DANIEL OLIVER VERSION 3 e1344761899136

Icelandic popstar Daniel Oliver has been going through a bit of a transition since we last wrote about him over a year ago. He’s shipped himself off to Sweden and has started taking all of the relevant steps to embark on that all important international launch. And so far things have been going quite well for him.

He’s signed up under the management wing of Victoria Ekeberg (the lady who took September to worldwide success for ten years). And he’s already been meeting up with some of our favoured songwriters of Swedish pop – just a few weeks back, he completed recording of a new Jonas von der Burg song (*scream*). His welcome to Sweden however, was fully cemented last week, when he performed on the big stage at the Saturday night concert of Stockholm Pride. 10,000 people were in attendance, and he sang two of the new songs he’s been working on – ‘Criminal Love’, plus what will be his first Swedish single, ‘DJ Blow My Speakers’.

‘DJ Blow My Speakers’ was written by Daniel himself, and Karl Batterbee, and was produced by Örlygur Smári. Örlygur, should you need reminding, is THE go-to man in Icelandic pop. He’s behind Daniel’s previous hits ‘Superficial’ and ‘Takin It Back’, and he’s also responsible for some of our favourite Icelandic pop songs of recent years, such as Euroband’s ‘This Is My Life’, and Hera Björk’s ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’.

‘DJ Blow My Speakers’ is a song that fits nicely into both the pop and dance genres – no surprises there. The production is our favourite element of the song. There’s plenty of chaps in pop music doing the dance music thing, but we haven’t heard it being done quite like how Örlygur has produced it for Daniel. The title is no cautionary tale – this song DOES demand magnificent sounding speakers for full effect. It sounds amazing when cranked up loud, and that chorus comes along and hits like a popsicle truck.

The single will be released soon, as will a video for the song. But in the meantime, you can keep up to date with Daniel at his Facebook and Twitter pages.

And here’s the all important preview that Daniel has put out ahead of the single’s release;
