An all too rare pop dance treat from Finland now. They really should get a wriggle on and start indulging in this genre as much as their Swedish neighbours do. For now though, the Finn with the win, is Johanna and her ace new single ‘Alive’.
‘Alive’ is pure Eurodance, successfully managing to keep its head above the treacherous waters of Eurotrash. It draws its influences from two sides of Europe – the Scandipop bubblegum world of the North, and the Balearic clubland of the South. We liked this on first listen, and loved it by the second listen. And in a year when the likes of September is going “Coldplay”, Agnes is doing ballads (albeit, quite amazingly at that), and Cascada are just plain shit, we need more and more Johanna’s in our lives.
The more eagle eyed amongst you may be familiar with Johanna’s schlager credentials – she competed in the Finnish national finals for Eurovision a decade ago in 2002, with this G:son composed number.
