SVT have resurrected their prize winning series Sápmi Sessions – in which well known Swedish artists travel North to meet their talented counterparts within the Sami population, and embark on a new collaboration together. They will have never met before, but will have three days to write and record a whole new song together. And Loreen herself was the subject of the first episode this Monday, working with Ingá-Máret Gaup Juuso and coming up with the song ’Son’.
It’s not *quite* the banger you were all hoping for, let’s put it that way. This is the sound of Loreen being given a license to go and fully embrace that weird tribal side of her sound that you could tell she was just itching to break out even more of on ‘Heal’. And while it’s no ‘My Heart Is Refusing Me’, it’s still very much the sound of Loreen in her absolute element. And so in that sense, her fans will probably appreciate this one. And maybe some Sami folk too. But nobody outside of those two demographics, we would imagine. And hats off to anyone who does.
In other New Music From Loreen news, the lady has been Instagramming snaps of herself in the recording studio over the past month. So we are expecting new tunes from her IMMINENTLY. Or at the very least, an announcement of some sort. In any case we’d be very surprised if we didn’t get a new Loreen album before the end of the year. And hooray for that.
In the meantime, here’s ‘Son’.
And if you’re interested in watching the full programme with English subtitles, head over to Shaenova1’s YouTube channel, where he or she has kindly uploaded it (along with every other Loreen television appearance, like ever).
