Yesterday saw the release of the debut single and video from JEM – a group who took part in X Factor Sweden’s first and final series at the end of last year. How does one follow the career high of being coached by Marie from A*Teens on a TV show that flopped so hard that it brought Idol kicking and screaming back from the TV graveyard? Well, you release a corker of a tune as your first single, that’s how! Step forward ‘Zoom’.
A catchy and current dancepop floorfiller (Marie Serneholt reference!!!) that announces their arrival on the Swedish pop scene with an almighty bang. We love having a new Swedish pop band to fawn over, and obviously we love it even more when the accompanying tunes are up to scratch. It makes it all so much easier, doesn’t it? Jem are sort of like N-Dubz, had N-Dubz ever kicked Dappy out and brought in another Tulisa instead. So already, they’re actually infinitely better. We’re loving the SWAGGER on display from the three of them in the video too. But it’s all about the pop.
‘Zoom’ was produced by Eric Saade’s regular producer Jason Gill, and written by Eric Saade’s regular co-writer J-Son. Although actually, it sounds less like Eric Saade and more like Jason Gill’s contribution to Alexandra Burke’s album ‘Heartbreak On Hold’ (and thus his contribution to her ‘Career On Hold’).
We hope that Jem, Jason, and J-Son have been working on more stuff together. This all sits very right.
‘Zoom’ is out now, and has been released outside of Sweden too.
