X Factor Denmark 2013: the winner(s) song(s)!

Karoline 3088

The final of X Factor Denmark 2013 wrapped up this weekend. But we’ve already had two singles from two different contestants released.

They do it a little bit different in Denmark than in the UK. Once you’ve made the final and are in the top 2, it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose – you still get to have your very own single put out at midnight. So both contestants perform their tracks, the public votes for a winner – but the actual result matters not, as both contestants get to see their songs climb the iTunes chart the following day, and both eventually end up with a record deal.

This year’s triumphant pair were Chresten (the winner) and Karoline (pictured above). And we’ve used Karoline’s image instead of the winner’s because she ended up getting the better song, despite not taking it to victory. Hers is ‘Det Er Her Vi Bor’, a dynamic electro ballad. And that’s another way in which Denmark’s X Factor differs to the UK version – the songs that come out of the final aren’t rank cover versions or drippy self help ballads – they’re contemporary tracks that could fit in with the repertoire of some of the country’s most successful recording artists at the time. And in the cases of Chresten and Karoline, we could easily imagine Mads Langer and Medina put out something quite similar, respectively. We were less enamoured with Chresten’s ‘Let Go’, but despite it not being to our taste, we can still see that it’s a song that would hold its own in amongst the heavyweights of its genre.

Both songs for your pop fan perusal;
