She’s been firmly in our hearts for just half a decade, but in that time has nonetheless managed to clock up an impressive resume of singles, and no less than three Melodifestivalen finalists – all direct qualifiers, thank you very much. And this Friday finally sees the release of her debut album – ‘Exposed’.
Ahead of that, we thought we’d take stock of what Wiktoria has released so far, give it a bit of a ranking, and compile a top ten of the absolute best tunes of hers. If anything, it at least allows us to partially right a wrong where one particular song is concerned – to give it the number one status it so deserved in a much more important music-centred contest a few years back…
You can find all ten of these songs – and five more besides – in our whopping great big Wiktoria playlist.
But here’s that almighty Top 10, in all its star-making glory;
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
10. ME
A little bit of funk, a little bit of disco, a little bit of r&b – and a lot of Wiktoria exploring her post-Melfest sound and style.
09. COME TO ME (64567)
What initially seemed a strangely titled single from last year. Though you soon found that “SIX FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN” was one of the choruses you found yourself singing in your head more than most others through 2020, and that title did start to make more sense.
08. NOT WITH ME
Will most certainly be going down as a timeless schlager ballad for the ages. It already has, if you ask us.
07. NEED YOU TO KNOW
A huge power ballad that holds nothing back. Epic, stark and emotional. If you thought she had plundered all your feels during ‘Not With Me’, just wait til you reach the end of this behemoth.
06. YESTERDAY R.I.P.
We’d have loved for the Wiktoriavicii phase to last for more than one single, but what can you do?
05. SAVE ME
That unfortgettable debut single, which catapulted her to where she is now. As a pop fan, you want to see an artist enjoying performing a song as much as you are enjoying hearing it. And we think that played a large part in Wiktoria breaking through – she looked like she was having the time of her life singing this song on that Melodifestivalen stage. And we were sold on it and on her. Right there and then.
04. OMG
In hindsight, this single has served as the stepping stone from Wiktoria’s early country-pop phase, to her current more r&b-flavoured era. Though it’s even better than most of the standouts from either phase.
03. UNTHINK YOU
That difficult first ballad, when you’re known for your riotous uptempos. When done well, however, you reveal yourself to be a much more multi-faceted artist than people might first have thought. ‘Unthink You’ was done brilliantly, and succeeded in elevating Wiktoria up quite a few places on the Swedish pop league table.
02. PERFECT MEMORY
On a much needed year out from Melodifestivalen in 2018, Wiktoria still saw fit to gift us with a three-minute pop banger to remind us that she had yet another direct-to-final qualifier up her sleeve if she felt like it. ‘Perfect Memory’ took her then trademark country-pop sound, and injected it with a breezy, joyful, summer feel. It remains one of her absolute finest.
01. AS I LAY ME DOWN
Widely favoured in the week going into the Melodifestivalen final of 2017, as the one to beat. Alas, the international juries saw to it that it was indeed beaten – and brutally, at that. A high score from the Swedish televote wasn’t enough to turn its fortunes around, and it remains one of the most prolific ‘what if’ entries of the past decade or so, amongst Eurovision fans.
