O. M. And of course, G!

Two names have been confirmed as taking part in the Melodi Grand Prix 2010, the competition that will decide Norway’s entry to next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. And both names make us very excited indeed!

First of all, British boyband a1 will be taking part. Well technically they stopped being a boyband back in 2002, but they’re back together now, as a threesome rather than a foursome. And they’ve got Eurovision in their sights! They’ve always had close ties to Norway given that band member Christian Ingebrigtsen (the hot blonde below) is Norwegian, and they achieved some success in Norway during their time as a band too. One of their biggest hits was a cover of Norwegian band A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’. And only last year, Christian himself participated in Melodi Grand Prix as a composer. We’re very much looking forward to hearing what a1 produce next February. And shall be going to see them when they perform at G-A-Y in London on New Year’s Eve.

Our favourite contestant of Melodi Grand Prix 2008 has also been confirmed for 2010. It’s Lene Alexandra. Former glamour model turned pop star Lene had a few hits in Norway before entering MGP in 2008 with the marvellously trashy and camp ‘Sillycone Valley’. She was cruelly knocked out early in the contest that was eventually won by Maria Haukaas Storeng. Nevertheless, she had her album released, which was worth it for the absolute gem that was ‘Sugar Daddy’ alone. A brilliant pop nugget that has to be heard to be believed. Her confidence has probably been given a lift again given the fact that she won last year’s Norwegian version of Strictly Come Dancing. So she’s hoping that the televoting public are back on her side again! We can’t wait to hear what she comes up with!

For those of you unfortunate enough never to have seen her performance in 2008, here it is again!
