What’s this? Sweden’s Julia Alfrida follows up the Melodifestivalen breakthrough she had in February with ‘Rich’, with a brand-new single out ‘Girls Girls Girls’. Last night she released the music video, in which she’s invited some of her favourite fellow feminists and lesbians to appear.
What’s it like? Quite the pleasant surprise in that it’s a massive switch in sound from the lo-fi r&b output she was releasing before Melodifestivalen. ‘Girls Girls Girls’ offers up a commercial pop melody and a confident lyric full of sass and steam! ‘Rich’ was one of the most underrated songs of Melodifestivalen 2021, but it did pick up its fans (aka those of us with taste!). ‘Girls Girls Girls’ capitalises on that and will hopefully continue to move Julia’s career forward in this direction, which we would very much welcome!
What does Julia say?I myself did not fall head over heels for the song immediately after I wrote it. Instead, it took me a few months to grasp the song’s hit potential. Something that helped me understand that was all the positive feedback I got for the song when I played it for people. Today, I love the song and am sooo happy that I did not give it away to any other artist.”
Written by? Julia herself, along with Elin Namnieks, Niklas Jahr and Niko Lindhé.
