WELL! This was quite a pleasant surprise. Y’all might remember if you were watching Melodifestivalen back in 2013, that one of the interval acts/skits was the almighty sight and sound of Hanson, Carson OCH Malmqvist performing a cover of Eric Saade’s ‘Popular’ – ‘Pensionar’. In the accompanying VT it showed the trio of legends turn their hand to covers of other songs from Rihanna, Maroon 5, and Danny Saucedo – the ‘joke’ being that it was a throwback to their glory days, when it was commonplace for Swedish artists to have hits with Swedish language covers of songs that were big hits elsewhere in the world. This joke even extended to an EP being released onto iTunes and Spotify, albeit to little fanfare. Aside from ‘Pensionar’ though, they’ve never actually performed any of these songs on TV. Until now. Over Easter weekend, they resurrected their cover of Danny Saucedo’s ‘In The Club’ – ‘Bingohall’. Performing it on – appropriately – Bingolotto. It was one of those moments that could really only exist within the world of Swedish schlager. And it’s difficult to explain the appeal of such a moment to anyone who doesn’t really get the genre. But if you do – CHRIST, what a moment. We just LOVE these three ladies. And the country that allows them to still get up to things like this;
